FAQ
What Are Your Hours?
We are open for visits by appointment. We can be reached by phone during normal business hours but we answer emails all day long.
How Far In Advance Should I Order A Cake?
We are often booked up weeks in advance and accept a limited amount of cake orders each week, so the sooner the better to reserve a place on our calendar. Many of our clients secure our services six months to a year before their event, but we always welcome inquiries for dates with less notice.
We are happy to accept an order up to one year in advance, and will accommodate last minute requests as our schedule allows.
Do You Require A Deposit?
-
To secure your date on our calendar, we require a $100 non-refundable deposit. The $100 deposit will be taken off the final balance of your cake.
-
Simple designs - 50% payment three (3) weeks prior to the event date. Final payment is required one (1) week prior to the event. We will not commence making the cake until we receive full payment.
-
Complex designs - 50% payment may be required up to 8 weeks prior to the event depending on the design. This will be clearly explained during your quoting process. Full payment is required two (2) weeks prior to the event. We will not commence making the cake until we receive full payment.
What Is Your Refund Policy?
The $100 calendar deposit is non-refundable. This is because we turn away other orders once you’ve booked this time so please make sure of your date before you pay this deposit.
Cancellations more than 3 weeks from the event may be refunded (excluding the $100 calendar fee) depending on the circumstances and any items that have been ordered for the cake. The amount refunded is at the discretion of Bay City Cakes..
Cancellations between 1 to 3 weeks from the event may be refunded up to 50% if the cake has not been commenced. The amount refunded will depend on the circumstances and any items that have been ordered for the cake. The amount refunded is at the discretion of Bay City Cakes.
Cancellations less than 1 week from the event will not be refunded. If special circumstances exist, Bay City Cakes may refund a portion of the monies paid on a cost recovery basis. The amount refunded is at the discretion of Bay City Cakes.
What Payment Methods Do You Take
We accept payment by cash, credit card (2% surcharge) direct deposit and Paypal (2% surcharge).
Do You Offer Consultations
We offer consultations on appointment only. We prefer to communicate initially via email so we can maximise your appointment time. We can deliver a far superior consultation if we have a good idea of the style of cake you are considering prior to you arriving.
For clients that have already paid a deposit, we offer a complimentary cake tasting at the time of the consultation.
For clients that want a consultation prior to booking or paying a deposit, we offer a $25 tasting box at the time of your consultation.
Because we are so busy we cannot meet for consultations when we have cakes being made. Contact us for a time to book your consultation.
We take great care to provide high quality service to all our clients, in person consultations are not required to make you an amazing cake! We can complete the entire design process and consult with you over email or by phone.
Do You Make Sugar Free Cakes, Vegan Cakes, Or Gluten-Free?
We currently provide a chocolate or vanilla Gluten-Free cake. At this time we cannot accommodate those with other dietary restrictions.
Will You Duplicate Another Cake Design That I Saw In a Magazine?
We aim to offer our clients original custom designed cakes. Out of respect for other cake designers in our industry, we choose not to duplicate other people’s work which is clearly a unique design.
At times however, clients may be referred to us by other cake designers who are too far away to provide a cake to the client. In these circumstances and with the permission of the original artist we will duplicate a cake for you and acknowledge the artist in our marketing material.
Most cakes in magazines are generic styled cakes that have been modified and reproduced for years by many different cake artists. These designs are not unique and we will happily design a cake for you based on any of these styles.
